Gettin' Genki

Since 2016

We are Nozawa Onsen's little burger shop with a big heart, combining Japan and Australia burgers with a Japanese twist whilst staying fresh, somewhat healthy, and super tasty. 

In the Winter season of 2016, two friends Yumi Sakumoto from Nigata and Josh Wilson from Melbourne, found a small space just off the main street in the town of Nozawa Onsen. Nozawa Onsen is located in Nagano prefecture is famous for its farming, Amazing skiing and Natural hot springs… So not a bad place in the world.

Yumi and Josh have been working in the hospitality industry for over two decades between them and have always dreamt of owning their own restaurant. The two teamed up and said to each other “if you want to start a restaurant from scratch what would you start?”  Kebabs or Ramen, Western or Japanese, healthy or not so healthy, all of these ideas were thrown around so they decided to meet in the middle and that is where Genki Burger was born! 

Genki is Japanese for healthy, happy and good this is what we base our passion for serving the best possible burgers everyday.
